It may be slightly too early to start a serious search, but might not be a terrible idea just to check fares and see where they are sitting right now. We were thinking of flying into Rome and spending 3 days there and were originally thinking of going on to a coastal town near Pisa after that-maybe Lerici. If flights directly to Italy are just too expensive, check flights to another European hub, particularly London or Dublin. Now we think we might have to adjust our plan to include three not one base. We are thinking 2 weeks but we could stretch it a little.
